A Grand Tour bronze after the 15th century Spinario by Antico (Italian, c.1460-1528), who drew inspiration from the original Greco-Roman Hellenistic Spinario bronze executed in the 3rd century BC. Created as a collector's piece to be stored on a high shelf so that the viewer could look up into the boy's face (the original has silver gilt eyes), the Spinario was also envisioned to be removed from the shelf and inspected closely at hand.
